Hi everyone,
I’m considering changing my phone service from Sprint over to the $30 month Smart Talk service and getting the LG 290 Slider phone. I have no use for a fancy phone with games, apps, etc nor do I need a lot of minutes or internet stuff.
But I noticed that the $30 plan includes 300 mb internet transfer with all of the minutes and texts (which are like 100x what I’ll ever use). How useful is this 300 mb? And what kind of websites will can you access with mobile phone browers?
I read a few reviews about this service and people say the phones aren’t cool (which absolutely does not concern me – it’s not a toy or status symbol for me) and that the browser isn’t a "real" browser and as such you won’t even want to use the internet on it.
Is this true? All I would want to do is MAYBE look at the news, check my email, etc. I don’t have the internet at home so these features would be nice. I have unlimited, super fast internet at my university for free so I don’t need iPhone type internet.
I would also assume this phone’s browser doesn’t have a Flash player so sites like YouTube would be out of the question. Not that it would matter with a 300mb internet limit.
I also saw in some reviews that this phone has some internet clients built in and that it supports POP3 email servers, but it didn’t mention IMAP, which my school uses. Anyone know if IMAP is supported and just not listed?
first off, it’s only 30 MB of data, not 300. most sites take from 100 to 200 KB and there are 1,00 KB in 1 MB. the internet is not limited to certain sites, but you are right you can’t watch videos. i highly recommend straight talk. it’s a great service.
