Classic Game Room HD – TURBOGRAFX-16 video game console review
Classic Game Room HD reviews the NEC Turbografx-16 video game console (also known as the PC-Engine in Japan, although there are differences). Released in 1989 in the U.S. the Turbografx-16 has a number of exclusive titles like Blazing Lazers and Bonk’s Adventure, many of which are now available for the Nintendo Wii Virtual Console.

I really wanted one …
I really wanted one of these, but now, after watching this review, I’m not so sure anymore. Obviously NEC were money-hungry whores. You needed to buy and accessory to do anything other than the basics. You needed an accessory for 2-players, you needed an accessory for composite video. Why?! The Magnavox Odyssey from 1972 had 2 controllers! The NES from 1983 had composite video!
If I bought one, it would almost make me feel dirty for supporting such rampant greed when it’s supposed to be fun.

Nice up-close …
Nice up-close review for one of history’s long lost game systems. I remember happily gaming away back in the 16-bit era with my Super NES and Genesis…the TG16 was that system you heard about and read about, but many of us never played it.
Learned a couple of things, too…one controller port? Ugh.
Anyway, good review as always.

Compared to Genesis …
Compared to Genesis, the central and video processors are not that powerfull but the sound chip is much better sounding than that INFERIOR FM chip in Sega. So overall, the games actually sound BETTER on Turbografx than on Sega Genesis, and since sound plays a major part in games… big points for this system!!!
